Hakim Ziyech becomes a free agent after leaving Wydad AC

Hakim Ziyech, the Moroccan-Dutch winger, has joined the ranks of unattached players after ending his time with Wydad AC.

The 33-year-old’s move to the free-agent market was recorded on 6 September 2026, following his departure from the Moroccan club. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the switch, and Ziyech does not have a new club listed.

Ziyech operates primarily on the right wing and is known for playing with his left foot. He stands 1.80m tall and was born in Dronten in the Netherlands, where he began his football education with Heerenveen.

Before moving to Wydad, Ziyech played for Al-Duhail in Qatar. He joined the Moroccan side from Al-Duhail on a free transfer in October 2025, having previously left Galatasaray for the Qatari club without a fee in January of the same year.

His career has included spells with Ajax, Chelsea and Galatasaray. Ziyech joined Chelsea from Ajax in 2020 for €40m after helping the Amsterdam club win the Dutch league and cup during the 2018-19 season. He also received the Footballer of the Year award in the Netherlands in 2018.

At Chelsea, Ziyech won the Champions League in the 2020-21 campaign, the Fifa Club World Cup in 2022 and the Uefa Super Cup in the 2021-22 season. He spent part of the 2023-24 season on loan at Galatasaray before completing a free transfer to the Turkish club in July 2024.

Galatasaray won the Turkish title in both 2023-24 and 2024-25, with Ziyech part of the squad for those successes. The winger also won the Turkish Super Cup during the 2023-24 campaign.

Ziyech made his name in the Netherlands with Heerenveen, FC Twente and Ajax. His Eredivisie record stands at 216 appearances, 79 goals and 91 assists, while he has scored 10 goals and supplied 11 assists in 45 Champions League appearances.

He now leaves Wydad AC and is officially without a club.
