Joao Felix comment sparks controversy after Al Nassr’s defeat by Al-Ittihad

Joao Felix has faced widespread criticism from Saudi Arabian football supporters after appearing to threaten to reveal damaging information about the Roshn Saudi League following Al Nassr’s defeat by Al-Ittihad.

Al Nassr lost 2-1 to their rivals on Saturday evening at Alinma Stadium in Jeddah, in the fifth round of the Roshn Saudi League. The result added to the attention surrounding Felix, who was visibly frustrated after the final whistle.

Television cameras captured an altercation between the Portugal international and an assistant referee. Felix appeared highly agitated during the exchange, and footage of the incident quickly spread across social media, prompting strong reactions from supporters of both clubs.

The controversy intensified when Felix was approached by a journalist in the mixed zone after the match. Asked about the game, the Al Nassr player replied: “If I speak, I will expose this league.”

The comment caused an angry response among a section of Saudi football followers. Some interpreted Felix’s words as more than a criticism of the match or the officials, arguing that they appeared to cast doubt on the competition as a whole.

Felix also failed to score against Al-Ittihad and did not produce the level of performance expected of him during the match. His comments therefore became the main focus of discussion after the defeat, with the video shared widely by the Okaz newspaper’s account on X.

One user, Hashim, questioned the tone of the statement, writing: “What does that mean either I win or I cause trouble?”

Another user, Mousa, called for action, saying: “This is a clear and explicit accusation against the integrity of Saudi competitions. He must be investigated.”

The account MSA added: “I hope the player’s statement is not allowed to pass without consequence. Ronaldo previously spoke and made threats and nothing happened. Today Felix is threatening and making promises.”

Mohammed Al-Tamimi said Al Nassr should part company with the Portuguese forward after the incident, describing the remarks as an “open threat”. He wrote: “A final exit.”

Another account, Fawaris Al-Jazira, posted: “This is the end of the Portuguese gang. It is time to clean our sport of them.”

Felix joined Al Nassr from Chelsea in the summer of 2025. According to Transfermarkt, he has since scored 30 goals and provided 22 assists in 53 appearances for the club in all competitions.

The defeat means the attention around Al Nassr’s meeting with Al-Ittihad has extended beyond the result itself, with Felix’s exchange with the assistant referee and his subsequent mixed-zone comment now driving the reaction among supporters.
