Manchester City maintain perfect Premier League start as Tottenham remain without a win

Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League with a third successive victory, beating newly promoted Coventry City 1-0 at Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The result preserved City’s perfect start to the campaign after an encouraging opening to the season. Their opponents, managed by Frank Lampard, arrived after losing each of their first three matches following their return to the top flight.

Manchester City began on the front foot and took the lead during the opening quarter of the match. Antoine Semenyo advanced down the right side of the penalty area before delivering a cutback towards Erling Haaland, who headed home at the first attempt.

The goal was Haaland’s second of the season and proved sufficient to secure another three points. Manchester City created further opportunities but were unable to extend their advantage, although they did enough to see out the match and maintain their 100% record.

Tottenham Hotspur remain without a win after drawing 0-0 with Nottingham Forest, although the point was their first of the season.

Spurs had lost their opening two fixtures and were looking to kick-start their campaign, while Nottingham Forest were also searching for their first victory after a cautious beginning to the season.

Neither side managed to make a decisive impact in the final third. Despite the importance of the contest for two teams still waiting for their first win, a lack of attacking quality ensured the match ended goalless.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s uneven start continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls had been beaten by Chelsea in their previous match and fell behind during the early stages against Leeds. Jayden Bogle was left unmarked at the near post and reacted quickest to stab a loose ball into the net.

Brighton went into half-time behind but found an equaliser late in the game. Luka Vuskovic completed the move after receiving a layoff from Maxim De Cuyper to earn the hosts a share of the points.

Crystal Palace secured their first victory of the campaign by recovering from behind twice to beat Fulham 3-2. Cesar Palacios scored twice for the winning side.

The two teams had both entered the match without a win, increasing the pressure on Crystal Palace in particular as they occupied the bottom of the standings. Fulham took an early lead when Joshua King produced a quick finish, but Tyrick Mitchell restored parity midway through the first half.

Fulham, known as the Cottagers, regained their advantage shortly before the interval through a well-struck effort from Cesar Palacios. Palace responded again nine minutes after the restart, with Mitchell turning a loose ball into the net after it ricocheted in the area.

Former Chelsea fullback Ben Chilwell then completed the comeback inside the final 10 minutes. He met Daichi Kamada’s assist and struck the ball into the net to give Crystal Palace all three points.

Brentford were denied a second win of the season after Sunderland fought back late to draw 1-1 at Gtech Community Stadium.

The teams had been evenly matched during a goalless first half, but Brentford seized control soon after the interval. Vitaly Janelt put the Bees in front with a composed finish.

Sunderland, the Black Cats, rescued a point in the closing stages when Enzo Lee Fee stepped up from the penalty spot and converted confidently, ensuring the points were shared.
