Olivier Verdon leaves Ludogorets after five Bulgarian titles

Benin and France centre-back Olivier Verdon has joined Without Club after leaving Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad.

The 30-year-old defender’s move was registered on 5 September 2026, bringing an end to his spell with Ludogorets, where he won five Bulgarian league titles, two Bulgarian Cups and five Bulgarian Super Cups.

Verdon had begun the 2026-27 campaign with Ludogorets and made two appearances in the efbet Liga, playing 92 minutes. He was not involved in the club’s two UEFA Conference League qualifying matches recorded this season.

The centre-back joined Ludogorets from Spanish side Alaves in July 2021 after a loan spell with the Bulgarian club during the 2020-21 season. That earlier move to Ludogorets was completed on loan from Alaves, before he returned to Spain at the end of the campaign.

His second spell in Bulgaria brought sustained domestic success. Verdon was part of the Ludogorets squad that secured league championships from the 2020-21 season through to 2024-25, as well as Bulgarian Cup triumphs in 2022-23 and 2024-25.

He also collected the Bulgarian Super Cup in 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26. The 2023-24 Super Cup victory included a goal for Ludogorets, while the club also finished as Bulgarian Cup finalists in 2024.

Born in Clamart, France, Verdon stands 1.90m tall and plays primarily on the right side of central defence. Before establishing himself in Bulgaria, he developed in France with Bordeaux’s reserve and senior teams, FC Sochaux and Angouleme CFC.

Verdon moved to Alaves from Sochaux in 2019 and spent time on loan at Belgian club KAS Eupen before his first temporary switch to Ludogorets. His departure from Ludogorets now brings his five-year association with the club to a close.

The completed move leaves Verdon without a club after his departure from Ludogorets on 5 September 2026.
