Kelvin Abrefa: Forest Green secure Reading right-back on loan until November
Ghanaian-English defender Kelvin Abrefa has joined Forest Green from Reading on loan, strengthening the club with a move that runs until 30 November.
The 22-year-old right-back makes the switch after starting the 2026-27 season with Reading. He made one appearance in Premier League 2 before moving to Forest Green, completing 69% of the available minutes in that competition.
Abrefa is a right-footed defender who stands 1.76m tall and has spent his development with Reading. He joined the club’s Under-23 side from Reading Under-18s in July 2021 before progressing into the senior squad a year later.
His move to Forest Green represents a return to senior football after beginning the campaign with Reading. The loan provides the defender with the opportunity to play for a club competing in the National League, following Reading’s start to the season in League One.
Abrefa’s previous senior records include no appearances recorded in League One, the EFL Cup or the EFL Trophy, while his only listed involvement this season came in Premier League 2. He has not registered a goal or assist in that competition.
The defender’s arrival adds another option to Forest Green’s squad at right-back. He joins with a career market value of €200,000 and remains contracted to Reading, who brought him into their senior structure after his progression through their youth teams.
Abrefa has represented both Ghana and England in terms of nationality but has no senior international record included alongside the completed move. His immediate focus is now Forest Green, where he will remain for the duration of the agreed loan period.
The transfer was completed on 4 September 2026, with Abrefa joining Forest Green from Reading on a temporary basis. He is due to return to Reading when the loan ends on 30 November.
