Senegal line up friendly against Comoros in France

Senegal are reportedly close to finalising an international friendly against Comoros during the upcoming October international window, with the encounter expected to take place in France.

According to reports, the Lions of Teranga are scheduled to face Comoros on 4 October at the iconic Stade Vélodrome in Marseille. The match is expected to provide Senegal’s technical team with another opportunity to assess the squad and fine-tune tactical preparations following the opening rounds of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

However, the Senegalese Football Federation is yet to officially confirm the friendly fixture, meaning the proposed match remains subject to final confirmation.

Should the match go ahead as planned, it will come immediately after Senegal’s first two qualifying matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former African champions will begin their qualifying campaign against Mozambique on 24 September before travelling away to face Ethiopia in their second Group fixture five days later, on 29 September.

The proposed clash against Comoros would therefore offer Senegal an opportunity to keep their players together after a demanding sequence of competitive fixtures while also allowing the coaching staff to experiment with different combinations and assess players who may not feature prominently during the opening qualifying matches.

Comoros, who have continued to establish themselves as an increasingly competitive force in African football in recent years, could provide a useful test for the Lions of Teranga as they continue preparations for their continental assignments.

Marseille’s Stade Vélodrome has regularly hosted African international fixtures due to the city’s strong African community and its popularity among football supporters from across the continent. The venue could consequently provide a lively atmosphere should the friendly receive official approval.

Senegal will nevertheless first turn their full attention to making a strong start to their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign when they host Mozambique on 24 September before embarking on the trip to Ethiopia on 29 September.
