Victor Orakpo: Nigeria forward joins Genclerbirligi from Nice on loan

Nigeria forward Victor Orakpo has joined Turkish Super Lig club Genclerbirligi from Nice on loan, adding a 20-year-old centre-forward to the Ankara side’s squad.

The move was completed on 3 September and is scheduled to run until 30 June 2027, when Orakpo is due to return to Nice. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the loan.

Orakpo arrives in Turkey after starting the 2026-27 campaign with Nice, who play in Ligue 1. He had not made an appearance in the club’s first two possible league matches before switching to Genclerbirligi.

The 1.94m striker spent the second half of last season on loan at AS Nancy, returning to Nice at the end of June. He had joined Nancy from Nice in February after an earlier loan spell with Montpellier was brought to an end.

That Montpellier move was Orakpo’s first senior loan after he progressed from Nice’s reserve side. He joined OGC Nice B from Global Academy in January 2024 and moved into the Nice set-up permanently the following July.

Orakpo was born in Lokoja and represents Nigeria. He is right-footed and operates predominantly through the centre of the attack, offering Genclerbirligi a recognised central option as they compete in the Super Lig.

His current spell in Turkey represents another change of club within a short period. Since leaving Global Academy, Orakpo has remained contracted to Nice while spending time with Montpellier and Nancy before making the latest move abroad.

Genclerbirligi have completed the loan signing of Victor Orakpo from Nice, with the Nigerian forward’s spell in Turkey running until June 2027.
