Ramy Bensebaini back in Borussia Dortmund training after injury
Ramy Bensebaini has taken a significant step towards his comeback for Borussia Dortmund after completing his first team training session since suffering a rib bruise two weeks ago.
The Algerian defender joined his teammates on Thursday, marking his return to group activity following the injury that kept him sidelined.
Head coach Niko Kovac confirmed Bensebaini’s participation during his pre-match press conference, though he cautioned that the session was of low intensity and involved minimal physical contact. “Ramy trained with the squad for the first time today,” Kovac said, adding that the workout could not yet be considered a true test of match readiness.
Whether the 31-year-old will be available for Saturday’s Bundesliga fixture against Hoffenheim remains uncertain. While Bensebaini is making positive progress, Kovac acknowledged that the light training load means he is still “obviously far away from Bundesliga football.”
A final decision on his involvement will be made after Friday’s session. “We will decide tomorrow to what extent he is an option for the weekend,” Kovac explained, highlighting the club’s cautious approach to reintegrating the experienced left-back.
