Ghana forward Felix Afena-Gyan scores brace in Igdır’s win over Manisa
Ghanaian forward Felix Afena-Gyan announced his arrival in Turkish football in spectacular fashion, scoring twice to inspire Igdır F.K. to a 4-2 victory over Manisa F.K. in the TFF 1. Lig on Thursday.
The 23-year-old, who recently joined Iğdır F.K. permanently from Italian side Cremonese, delivered a standout performance capped by a stunning bicycle kick in the second half.
Iğdır raced into a two-goal lead inside 16 minutes, with Loïc Kouagba opening the scoring in the ninth minute before Alim Öztürk converted from the penalty spot seven minutes later.
Afena-Gyan pulled one back for the hosts in the 25th minute, capitalising on a defensive error before calmly finding the net.
Manisa responded with a Julien Anziani penalty shortly before half-time to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Afena-Gyan, however, restored Iğdır’s two-goal advantage in spectacular fashion in the 65th minute.
The Ghanaian forward connected with a lofted cross and produced an acrobatic overhead kick that gave the goalkeeper no chance, completing his brace and putting Iğdır firmly in control.
Manisa scored a late consolation through Yusuf Talum in the 89th minute, but Iğdır held on to secure all three points.
The brace provides an impressive early statement from Afena-Gyan following his move to Turkey and offers a glimpse of the attacking threat he could provide Iğdır throughout the season.
