Morocco international Yassine Bounou has been named the Saudi Pro League’s Best Goalkeeper for August following an impressive start to the 2026/27 season with Al-Hilal.

The league announced the Moroccan as the winner of the monthly award on Wednesday in recognition of his performances across the opening four rounds of the campaign.

Bounou featured in every minute of Al-Hilal’s league matches during August, playing 360 minutes while keeping two clean sheets and conceding only three goals.

The 35-year-old shut out Al-Fayha and Al-Ahli as he once again demonstrated why he remains one of Africa’s leading goalkeepers.

Strong start for Morocco’s number one

The award underlines Bounou’s importance to Al-Hilal, where he has continued to establish himself as a key figure since joining the Saudi Arabian giants.

The former Sevilla goalkeeper returned to club duty after an extended break following his involvement with Morocco at the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

His latest recognition adds to an already distinguished career for the Atlas Lions goalkeeper, who has remained a central figure for both club and country.

For Moroccan and African football supporters, the award is further evidence of Bounou’s continued consistency at the highest level, despite playing outside Europe’s major leagues.

Al-Hilal dominate August awards

Bounou was one of two Al-Hilal players recognised among the Saudi Pro League’s August award winners.

Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves was named Best Player of the Month after his performances for the club.

Elsewhere, Al-Nassr manager Ange Postecoglou won the Best Coach award, while Al-Kholood’s Hamed Al-Shanqiti was named the league’s Best Promising Player.
