Morocco legends Regragui and Benatia join CANAL+ football coverage

Walid Regragui and Mehdi Benatia are set to begin new roles with CANAL+, with the former Morocco manager joining the French broadcaster as an analyst and Benatia welcomed as part of its football coverage team.

Regragui has recently joined CANAL+ as a consultant, according to French newspaper L’Equipe. His role will see him appear on the channel’s analytical programmes during European football evenings and Premier League matches.

The broadcaster announced Regragui’s arrival at a press conference held to launch its new season. The event took place at CANAL+’s new studio, which has been named after Michel Platini.

Regragui’s appointment gives the former Morocco coach a new platform to discuss major matches and wider football issues as part of the channel’s television coverage. His appearances will focus on the European programme of matches and fixtures from the Premier League.

At the same time, CANAL+ used its account on X to announce the arrival of Mehdi Benatia as a match analyst. Benatia, a Morocco great, will join the broadcaster’s group of football consultants.

The channel posted: “المهدي بنعطية ينضم الى فريق CANAL+ كمحلل”.

The move brings together two prominent Moroccan figures in a fresh broadcasting venture. Regragui previously led Morocco, while Benatia is recognised as a legend of the national team. Their appointments mean both will now contribute to CANAL+’s analysis of football matches, although the announcement set out their roles separately.

The broadcaster has also added former international midfielder Ines Jaurena to its panel of analysts. Jaurena is 35 and joins the group alongside Regragui and Benatia.
