Mathis Amougou moves to Toulouse in bid for regular Ligue 1 football

Toulouse FC have strengthened their midfield by signing Mathis Amougou on loan, with the young Cameroon international set to remain at the club until 30 June 2027.

The move gives Amougou the opportunity to continue his development in a new environment after making his first Ligue 1 appearances with Strasbourg. He joined the Alsace club from Chelsea on 12 July 2025, but will now remain in France while changing clubs.

Toulouse see the midfielder as a promising addition to their squad as they look to develop his potential and gradually establish him in the centre of the pitch. The club, known as Les Violets, have not signed him on a permanent basis, with the agreement structured as a long-term loan.

Amougou featured in 12 Ligue 1 matches for Strasbourg last season. His involvement was limited, but the appearances allowed him to experience the demands of France’s top division and gain valuable senior-level exposure.

The midfielder’s current market value is estimated at €9m by Transfermarkt.

Amougou began his football education at US Torcy and has since attracted attention as one of the young players regarded as having significant potential. His next challenge at Toulouse will be to build on his early experience in French football, compete for a regular place in midfield and take another step in his progression.

He arrived in France after his time with Chelsea and initially continued his career in Ligue 1 at Strasbourg. The transfer to Toulouse means he will remain in the same competition, while moving to a club where he will aim to play a more prominent role over the course of the loan.

Toulouse’s next fixture is their third match of the French championship, when they face Lille. The match is scheduled to take place soon after Amougou’s arrival at the club.
