Morocco’s Azzedine Ounahi returns to Panathinaikos until 2030
Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi has returned to Panathinaikos, signing a contract with the Greek club until June 2030.
Panathinaikos confirmed the midfielder’s arrival on Wednesday, September 2, as Ounahi leaves Girona FC after one season in Spain.
The 30-year-old already knows the club, having spent the 2024-25 season in Athens on loan from Olympique de Marseille.
Ounahi returns to familiar surroundings
Ounahi impressed during his first spell with Panathinaikos, helping establish himself as an important figure in the Greek side’s midfield.
His performances in Greece led to a move to Girona, where he continued his career in La Liga during the 2025-26 campaign.
Ounahi made 25 league appearances for the Catalan club last season, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
Morocco midfielder chooses Panathinaikos
The midfielder attracted interest from several clubs during the summer transfer window, with Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Real Betis among those linked with a move for him.
Despite the interest, Ounahi opted for a return to Panathinaikos, two years after leaving Athens.
His new contract will keep him at the Greek club until June 2030, marking the beginning of another long-term chapter in his career.
