Feyenoord eye Nigeria striker Victor Boniface in late transfer move

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has emerged as a late transfer option for former Dutch champions Feyenoord, with the Eredivisie club exploring a move before the Netherlands transfer window closes tonight.

While the transfer windows in most of Europe’s major leagues have already shut, clubs in the Netherlands still have until 11:59 PM to complete their business. That has created a frantic final few hours for teams looking to strengthen their squads, and Feyenoord are among those considering a late attacking addition.

Feyenoord turn to Boniface

Feyenoord’s need for another forward has increased following the departure of Ayase Ueda to Lille on Tuesday. The Japanese striker was one of the Eredivisie’s most prolific attackers last season, scoring 25 league goals, and had already found the net three times in four games this campaign.

According to Voetbal4U, Boniface is now one of the players Feyenoord are considering to fill the void created by Ueda’s departure.

The Nigerian returned to Bayer Leverkusen this summer after a difficult 2025/26 campaign that was severely disrupted by a knee injury. His situation at the Bundesliga club, however, has not improved significantly, with new head coach Carles Martinez seemingly viewing him as a secondary option.

Boniface currently appears to sit behind Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane in Leverkusen’s attacking hierarchy, raising the possibility of an exit before the Dutch deadline.

A chance to revive his career

The 25-year-old’s injury history remains the biggest concern despite his considerable ability.

During his time at Werder Bremen, Boniface’s quality was recognised by the coaching staff, but persistent fitness problems restricted his involvement. He made only 11 appearances, all from the bench, and accumulated just 326 minutes throughout the campaign.

That record is a long way from the level he showed during his breakthrough 2023/24 Bundesliga season with Leverkusen. Boniface scored 14 goals and provided nine assists in 23 league appearances, establishing himself among Germany’s most dangerous forwards.

At his best, his combination of power, movement and finishing made him a serious attacking threat, and a move to Feyenoord could offer him the opportunity to rebuild his confidence and regain regular playing time.

Leverkusen open to a deal

Boniface has previously been linked with Hannover 96, but that option is no longer available following the closure of the German transfer window.

Feyenoord could therefore represent one of his few remaining opportunities to secure a move this summer.

Leverkusen are understood to be open to a deal because Boniface does not appear central to Martinez’s plans, although the structure of any potential transfer remains uncertain.

A loan could be considered, while a permanent move is another possibility. Boniface is currently valued at €5 million by Transfermarkt, potentially making him an attainable late-window option for Feyenoord.

With the Dutch deadline rapidly approaching, the coming hours could determine whether the former Eredivisie champions make their interest concrete and give the Super Eagles forward a fresh start.
