Simon Adingra: Ivory Coast winger joins Ajax on loan from Sunderland

Ivory Coast winger Simon Adingra has joined Ajax from Sunderland on loan, bringing the 24-year-old to the Eredivisie club for the 2026-27 season.

Adingra, who plays on the left wing and is right-footed, completed the move on 2 September. His loan spell in Amsterdam runs until 30 June 2027.

The transfer comes after a season in which Adingra moved between Sunderland and Monaco. He joined Monaco from Sunderland on loan in February 2026, before returning to the English club at the end of that temporary spell in June.

Sunderland had signed Adingra from Brighton in July 2025 for €24.4m. He had previously spent time away from Brighton on loan at Union SG during the 2022-23 season, following his move to the Premier League club from Danish side Nordsjaelland for €8m.

Adingra began his senior career in Denmark after joining Nordsjaelland’s under-19 side from the Right to Dream academy in January 2020. He made the move to Nordsjaelland’s senior team in January 2021 before joining Brighton the following year.

The Abobo-born player has also represented Ivory Coast at international level. He was part of the national team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024.

Adingra made one appearance for Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup before joining Ajax. He had not featured for Sunderland in the Premier League during the 2026-27 campaign before the move, and now joins an Ajax side competing in the Eredivisie.

The winger arrives with a market value of €22m and will wear the number seven shirt for the Dutch club. Ajax have secured Adingra’s services until the end of June 2027, when he is due to return to Sunderland.
