Criticism from Moroccan media has emerged against Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), regarding his attendance to watch all matches of the South African national team in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Motsepe has been present in the stands of his country’s national team matches throughout the African competition, from the group stage’s initial encounter to the recent quarter-final match against Cape Verde.
The Moroccan newspaper, “SATV.ma,” has leveled strong accusations against South Africa’s Patrice Motsepe, alleging that he is facilitating his country’s national team to win the AFCON.
The Moroccan outlet stated that Motsepe is going to great lengths to support the South African team in winning the AFCON 2023 title.
Furthermore, the Moroccan publication argued that Motsepe’s presence at South Africa’s matches could be perceived as steering his country’s team towards victory in the continental championship.
This, it claims, contradicts the norms and traditions of the African competition, thus disrupting its natural course and undermining the interests of other nations.
It also pointed out that the other participating teams in the AFCON are stronger, fiercer, and more prepared than the South African national team.
These teams, it argued, deserve to win through fair play, readiness, and adherence to the competition’s regulations.
It’s worth noting that the semi-final matches of the Africa Cup of Nations are scheduled for tomorrow evening, where South Africa will face Nigeria in the first encounter, while the second match will bring together Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
