Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru leaves Anderlecht to continue career as a free agent

Ghana midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has left RSC Anderlecht and is now without a club after ending his time with the Belgian side.

The 28-year-old central midfielder departed Anderlecht on 2 September 2026. No transfer fee was recorded for the move, and Ashimeru is currently unattached as he considers the next stage of his career.

Ashimeru had not made an appearance for Anderlecht in the 2026-27 Jupiler Pro League campaign or in the club’s Europa League qualifying matches before his departure. He spent the second half of the previous season on loan at La Louviere, returning to Anderlecht at the end of June.

The Ghanaian joined Anderlecht from Austrian club Salzburg in July 2021 in a €1.5m transfer. He had already spent time with the Belgian club on loan earlier that year before making the move permanent.

Ashimeru’s spell in Austria included two league titles and two Austrian Cups with Salzburg, with those successes coming in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. He also had loan spells at FC St. Gallen, Wolfsberger AC and Austria Lustenau during his time in the country.

Born in Accra, Ashimeru began his senior career with Ghanaian club WAFA before moving to Salzburg in 2017. He is a right-footed midfielder and stands 1.74m tall.

His departure brings an end to more than five years with Anderlecht, including his return from the loan spell at La Louviere earlier in 2026. Ashimeru is now without a club following his completed exit from the Belgian side.
