Al Masry pay Emad El Nahhas compensation as Ahmed Samy takes charge

Al Masry have paid Emad El Nahhas and his coaching staff £2m in compensation after officially ending his time as head coach, with Ahmed Samy agreed as his replacement.

The club reached a settlement with El Nahhas covering the release clause in his contract and that of his assistants. Al Masry confirmed their appreciation for the work carried out by the former manager during his time in charge.

Samy is expected to begin his new role by leading Al Masry’s training session at 20:00 local time on Wednesday. His coaching team will include Hossam Abdel Aal as general coach, Ahmed Fathy as assistant coach, Salah Amin as coach and Osama Abdel Karim as goalkeeper coach.

FilGoal.com had previously reported that Al Masry had decided to part company with El Nahhas and appoint Samy in his place.

El Nahhas took charge of Al Masry shortly before the end of last season and guided them to the Egypt Capital Cup, the first trophy to enter the club’s honours cabinet since their Egypt Cup success in 1998.

His departure makes El Nahhas the first manager to leave his club in the current Egyptian Premier League season.

Al Masry began the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Smouha before beating Arab Contractors 3-2. They then suffered a 1-0 defeat by Pyramids FC.

The club are preparing for their next fixture on 7 September, when they are scheduled to face Montakhab El Suez Petrojet in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Al Masry will also compete in the Egyptian Super Cup for only the second time in their history. The tournament is due to take place in December.

Samy did not start the current season in charge of a club. His most recent managerial position was with Modern Sport during the previous campaign.

The change in the dugout therefore comes early in Al Masry’s league season, with the club having taken six points from their opening three matches. That start included wins against Smouha and Arab Contractors, followed by the narrow loss to Pyramids FC.

Al Masry’s immediate focus will now turn to the next league fixture and the transition to Samy’s management team, while the club also prepare for their return to the Egyptian Super Cup later in the year.
