Bulls secure Springbok hooker Johan Grobbelaar through 2030

The Bulls have secured the long-term future of Springbok hooker Johan Grobbelaar after extending his contract until 2030, keeping one of the key members of their forward pack at Loftus Versfeld.

Grobbelaar has developed into an important figure for the Pretoria-based side since making his senior debut in 2017. His new agreement represents a significant decision for the Bulls as they retain a player who has become central to their pack and increasingly prominent in South African rugby.

The hooker, a product of Paarl Gymnasium, has made more than 100 appearances in the Bulls’ blue jersey. During that time, he has established himself as one of the leading players in his position in South Africa.

His consistent form at provincial level also earned him recognition with the Springboks. Grobbelaar’s international involvement has added valuable experience to a player who is now a regular presence at Loftus Versfeld.

The Bulls’ executive, Edgar Rathbone, welcomed the agreement and said Grobbelaar represented the values of the franchise.

The extension means the Bulls have committed to keeping Grobbelaar at the club for the remainder of the decade. It also underlines the value they place on a forward who has combined long service to the union with growing international pedigree.

Since beginning his senior career in 2017, Grobbelaar has progressed from a promising product of Paarl Gymnasium into a proven Bulls performer. His appearance tally of more than 100 matches in the blue jersey reflects the role he has played in the team’s forward unit.

For the Bulls, retaining a Springbok hooker with that level of experience provides continuity in an important position. Rathbone described the agreement as a statement of intent, with Grobbelaar set to remain part of the side’s efforts to challenge for silverware in the seasons ahead.

The contract announcement also confirms that Grobbelaar will continue his career at Loftus Versfeld, where he has become a familiar and influential figure for the Bulls.
