Al Masry part company with Emad El Nahhas despite winning six points

Al Masry have dismissed manager Emad El Nahhas after just three Egyptian Premier League matches, despite the team making a positive start to the season with two wins from their opening three games.

The club’s board has agreed a deal for Ahmad Sami to replace El Nahhas, with the new manager due to begin work by leading training at 20:00 on Wednesday.

Sami’s coaching staff at Al Masry will include Hossam Abdel Aal as general coach, Ahmad Fathy as assistant coach, Salah Amin as coach and Osama Abdel Karim as goalkeeping coach.

The future of the other members of El Nahhas’ backroom team has not yet been decided.

El Nahhas has become the first manager to leave his club in the Egyptian Premier League this season. His departure comes despite Al Masry collecting six points from their first three fixtures.

Al Masry opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Smouha before beating Al Mokawloon Al Arab 3-2. They then suffered a 1-0 defeat by Pyramids FC.

The decision means El Nahhas’ second spell in charge of Al Masry has ended shortly after the start of the new league campaign. He was appointed before the conclusion of last season and guided the club to the Egypt Capital Cup, securing their first trophy since the 1998 Egypt Cup.

That success was the first major honour to be added to Al Masry’s trophy cabinet in 27 years.

Sami, meanwhile, had not started the current season in charge of a club. His most recent managerial position was with Modern Sport during the previous campaign.

His first match in charge of Al Masry will come against Petrojet on 7 September, in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Al Masry will also compete in the Egyptian Super Cup for only the second time in their history. The tournament is scheduled to take place in December.

The club’s decision to make a change in the dugout so early in the season comes after a campaign in which El Nahhas had delivered silverware, but the board has nevertheless opted to appoint Sami as the team prepares for its league commitments and its appearance in the Egyptian Super Cup.
