Youssouf Fofana makes Sevilla switch from AC Milan on season-long loan

French-Malian defensive midfielder Youssouf Fofana has joined Sevilla from AC Milan on loan, completing a move that takes the 27-year-old from Serie A to La Liga.

The transfer was completed on 1 September 2026, with the loan running until 30 June 2027. No fee has been specified for the move. Fofana, who is valued at €23m, will bring experience from his time in Italy, France and international football to the Sevilla squad.

Fofana joined AC Milan from Monaco in August 2024 in a €26m transfer. He spent four-and-a-half seasons with Monaco after moving from Strasbourg in January 2020 for €15m, having started his senior career with Strasbourg’s reserve and first teams.

The Paris-born midfielder plays primarily in defensive midfield and is right-footed. He made his name in France with Strasbourg, where he won the French League Cup in the 2018-19 season. His performances earned him a move to Monaco, before AC Milan secured his services in 2024.

During his time with Milan, Fofana won the Italian Super Cup in the 2024-25 campaign. He also has major international experience with France, having been part of the side that finished runners-up at the 2022 World Cup.

The move to Sevilla gives Fofana a fresh opportunity in Spain after his spell with AC Milan. His most recent recorded league campaign was in Serie A, while the 2026-27 season record shows no appearances before his departure from the Italian club.

Fofana’s arrival adds a player with experience of major domestic competitions and international football to Sevilla’s midfield. The loan agreement keeps him with the La Liga club through the 2026-27 season, with his contract at Sevilla running until 30 June 2027.

Youssouf Fofana has therefore completed his move from AC Milan to Sevilla on loan until the end of June 2027.
