Ali El-Ramli has won a bronze medal for Egypt in the judo competition at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
El-Ramli secured third place in the boys’ under-81kg category after defeating Cyprus’ Vladimirios Charalampous by ippon in the bronze-medal contest.
His victory gave Egypt a second medal at the Youth Olympics, following Zain Hesham’s swimming gold medal on Sunday.
Egypt now has two medals in total – one gold and one bronze – placing it seventh in the overall standings alongside France, which also has one gold and one bronze.
The Egyptian delegation is competing at the Games hosted by Senegal from 30 October to 13 November. It consists of 45 male and female athletes taking part in 19 sports.
Mohamed El-Bassiouni from the equestrian team and Malak Mohamed from the badminton team carried the Egyptian flag during the athletes’ parade at the opening ceremony.
Weightlifting, modern pentathlon and karate are not included in Egypt’s delegation for the competition because of limits on the number of athletes set by the organising committee.
