Tottenham bring in Mykhailo Mudryk on loan from Chelsea for remainder of season

Tottenham have completed the signing of Ukraine international Mykhailo Mudryk on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season.

The move was officially confirmed before the summer transfer window closed, with Mudryk joining the club only days after Tottenham secured the arrivals of Omar Marmoush and Savinho from Manchester City.

The switch also gives Mudryk the chance to work again with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, who knows the 25-year-old well from their time together at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mudryk began his career with Metalist Kharkiv before moving to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in 2014. Two years later, he joined Shakhtar Donetsk, where he progressed through the club’s youth system before making his first-team debut at the age of 17.

He established himself as one of the most promising players in Ukrainian football during his time at Shakhtar. Mudryk made 44 appearances for the club and contributed to 29 goals, while helping them win the Ukrainian Super Cup in the 2021-22 season.

He also played a part in Shakhtar’s Ukrainian Premier League title success in the 2022-23 campaign. In the same year, Mudryk was named Ukraine’s player of the year.

His performances earned him a move to Chelsea in January 2023. Mudryk has since made 73 appearances for the London club, contributing to 21 goals.

His time at Chelsea was interrupted by a suspension for a doping offence, although he has since returned to football.

Mudryk has won 28 caps for Ukraine and scored three international goals. He was also the player who scored the decisive goal to secure his country’s qualification for Euro 2024.

At Tottenham, he will reunite with De Zerbi, who previously worked with him during his time in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk. Mudryk will also join a squad that has recently added Marmoush and Savinho, both of whom arrived from Manchester City.

The loan agreement runs through to the conclusion of the current season.
