Chelsea land Senegal international Lamine Camara in £47m deadline-day

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Monaco for the signing of Senegal midfielder Lamine Camara in a deal worth around £47 million (€54m).

The Blues moved quickly to secure the 22-year-old after their initial €45m proposal was rejected, with an improved offer now accepted by the French club ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline.

Camara has agreed personal terms on a six-year contract with Chelsea, with the agreement also including an option for a further 12 months.

The midfielder has already completed his medical and is expected to arrive in London on Wednesday as Chelsea prepare to complete the formalities of the transfer.

Chelsea strike late Camara deal

The agreement represents a significant late push from Chelsea for a player who had emerged as one of their preferred midfield targets.

The Athletic reported earlier on Tuesday that Chelsea were keen to bring Camara to Stamford Bridge but initially saw their €45m bid turned down by Monaco.

The Premier League club returned with a substantially improved offer in the region of £47m, which Monaco accepted as the deadline approached.

Camara now looks set to become the latest addition to Chelsea’s midfield options after establishing himself as an important player at Monaco.

Fernandez sale funds major midfield move

Chelsea’s move for Camara comes shortly after the club agreed to sell Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for £125m.

The departure of the Argentine midfielder leaves Chelsea with a major vacancy in the centre of their squad, while the acquisition of Camara provides an immediate addition in that area.

Camara arrives with international experience at the highest level, having represented Senegal at this summer’s World Cup.

His arrival will add another dynamic presence to Chelsea’s midfield, with the club committing significant resources to secure his services before the transfer window closes.

The six-year contract, plus an option for another season, also underlines Chelsea’s long-term belief in the 22-year-old and his potential to become a key figure at Stamford Bridge.
