Official: Senegal winger Ibrahim Mbaye joins Aston Villa in €55m deal

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Senegal international Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain, with the 18-year-old winger agreeing a five-year contract in a transfer worth about €55m.

Mbaye becomes the latest Senegalese player to join Villa following the arrival of Nicolas Jackson, as the Premier League club continue to strengthen their squad.

The deal will keep Mbaye at Villa until 2031, with an option to extend the agreement by a further year.

The teenager has quickly established himself as one of the most highly regarded young players in African football. Although he has spent much of his club career in the shadow of PSG’s established stars, his performances for Senegal have helped him build a growing reputation.

Mbaye made his senior international debut for the Lions of Teranga in November 2025 and made an immediate impression. His technical ability and versatility have been among the qualities that have helped him become an important option for the national side.

He has scored four goals and provided five assists in 15 appearances for Senegal.

Mbaye also made history at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in 2025, becoming the youngest player and youngest goalscorer in Senegal’s history at the tournament.

Despite being only 18, the winger gained valuable international experience during the competition. He was initially used mainly as a substitute by then-Senegal coach Pape Thiaw, who had brought him into the squad from Paris at a time when his selection was not widely expected.

Mbaye regularly provided an attacking spark after coming off the bench and played a significant part in Senegal’s run to their second continental title.

His performances at the tournament helped push his market value higher and increased interest from major European clubs. That interest continued through the winter and summer transfer windows despite his limited opportunities at PSG.

Mbaye’s development at PSG also attracted interest from a number of European clubs.

Liverpool were among those keen to secure his services as they looked to replace Mohamed Salah. The Reds were reportedly interested in Mbaye alongside 24-year-old Bradley Barcola, but they were unable to reach an agreement with PSG.

After several weeks of discussions involving Mbaye’s representatives and interested clubs, Aston Villa eventually won the race for the Senegalese winger.

French and British media reported that Villa agreed a fee of around €55m for the Paris academy graduate.

Mbaye now begins a new chapter of his career in the Premier League, having left PSG after becoming one of Senegal’s most promising young internationals.

His five-year agreement, which includes an option for an additional season, will see him remain with Aston Villa through 2031 if the initial contract runs its full term.

The move completes a rapid rise for Mbaye, who has gone from a highly rated PSG academy player to a Senegal international and now one of Aston Villa’s major attacking signings.
