Lamine Yamal sets new Barcelona scoring age record with 51 goals

Lamine Yamal has become the youngest player to score 50 official goals for FC Barcelona after reaching the milestone at the age of 19 years and 49 days.

The Spain international achieved the landmark by scoring twice against Rayo Vallecano on Monday evening, taking his total for the Barcelona first team to 51 goals. The Catalan club confirmed that Yamal had broken the record for the youngest player in its history to reach the figure.

His achievement places him ahead of Lionel Messi, who scored his 50th goal for FC Barcelona at 21 years and 120 days. Messi’s emergence as a prolific scorer came relatively late when compared with the pace of Yamal’s progress.

Yamal has also rewritten the record among players in Europe’s five major leagues. He surpassed Raul Gonzalez, who reached 50 goals for Real Madrid at 19 years and 249 days.

Fernando Torres is third on the list, having reached the same landmark for Atletico Madrid at 20 years and 221 days. Yamal’s record therefore applies not only to FC Barcelona but to the leading five leagues across European football.

He reached 50 goals earlier than both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Mbappe was 19 years and 241 days old when he reached the mark, while Haaland did so at 20 years and 196 days.

The latest milestone adds to the remarkable speed of Yamal’s development at Barcelona. His two goals against Rayo Vallecano moved him beyond the significant 50-goal barrier and ensured that he now stands alone as the youngest player to achieve it in the five major European leagues.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick praised the teenager after the match, highlighting both his ambition and the level he has already reached.

“He is always looking to improve. I am very happy with him. What he does and the way he plays are exceptional. He is reaching a truly incredible level,” said Flick at his post-match news conference.

Yamal’s total of 51 official goals for Barcelona means he has now overtaken the club’s previous youngest milestone-holder while also establishing a wider record in European football. The comparison with Messi underlines the significance of the achievement: even Barcelona’s most celebrated modern goalscorer took until the age of 21 years and 120 days to reach 50 goals.

The record previously held by Raul Gonzalez had stood as the benchmark among the leading European leagues, with Torres next behind him. Yamal’s latest performance against Rayo Vallecano has moved him ahead of both players, as well as Mbappe and Haaland, at an earlier age.
