Al Ahli have not made a bid for Teboho Mokoena, says agent

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has not received an official offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, according to his agent Glyn Binkin.

Al Ahli have reportedly identified the South Africa international as a possible replacement for Ivory Coast captain Franck Kessie, who recently left the club to join Italian side Atalanta.

However, Binkin says neither he nor Sundowns have been contacted by the Saudi Pro League side about a potential move for the 29-year-old.

“Despite there being a lot of speculation about this, as happens almost every transfer window, I have not received any contact from the club regarding this matter so far,” Binkin told Egyptian publication Kora Plus.

“I am certain that Mamelodi Sundowns have not received anything either, otherwise I believe they would have informed me about it.”

Mokoena has three years remaining on his contract with Sundowns, meaning any potential transfer would have to be negotiated with the South African champions.

The midfielder is regarded as one of the leading players in his position on the African continent and has attracted interest from clubs outside South Africa in recent transfer windows.

Binkin said Sundowns were aware when Mokoena signed his current contract that he could eventually seek a move abroad.

“When he signed his new contract with Sundowns two years ago, they always knew that at some point he would want to pursue a professional experience outside South Africa,” he said.

“You could say that he is the best player in his position who is still playing in Africa, and he is also a model professional both on and off the pitch, so he would be a great addition to any club that signs him.”

Any potential move could also add an interesting subplot to the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, with Al Ahli set to face Sundowns in September.

For now, however, Binkin insists there has been no formal approach for Mokoena, who remains under contract with Sundowns.
