Olisa Ndah officially unveiled by Al Shomooa after Orlando Pirates exit

Former Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah has officially joined Libyan Premier League club Al Shomooa, bringing an end to recent uncertainty over his next move.

The 28-year-old Nigeria international was unveiled by Al Shomooa after being linked with a number of clubs across the continent in recent weeks, including Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ndah moved to South Africa in 2021, signing for Orlando Pirates from Akwa United. He quickly established himself as one of the standout defenders in South African football after making the switch from the Nigerian club.

His arrival at Orlando Pirates came after he had won the NPFL title with Akwa United. During his time with Pirates, he went on to add four MTN8 trophies and three Nedbank Cups to his list of honours.

Ndah left Orlando Pirates to join Stellenbosch last season, but his time at the club was brief. After the two parties ended their association when his short-term deal expired, the towering defender was made available as a free agent.

That led to reported interest from several clubs across Africa, with Mamelodi Sundowns also mentioned among the teams monitoring his situation. Al Shomooa had previously been considered a possible destination for Ndah before he opted to move to Stellenbosch last season.

The Libyan Premier League side has now completed the move, confirming Ndah as its latest signing. His unveiling fulfils a switch that had been discussed before his move to Stellenbosch and gives the defender a fresh opportunity outside South Africa.

Ndah’s career in South Africa began with Orlando Pirates after his successful spell at Akwa United. The defender’s performances helped build his reputation in the country, while his collection of domestic honours further underlined the impact he made during his time with the club.

Following his departure from Stellenbosch, his future remained the subject of speculation, with interest reported from clubs elsewhere on the continent as well as from Mamelodi Sundowns. The move to Al Shomooa has now resolved that uncertainty.

The transfer was previously reported by iDiski Times before Al Shomooa formally unveiled the player. Ndah will now continue his career in the Libyan Premier League after spending the past several seasons in Nigerian and South African football.

At 28, the Nigeria international brings experience from Akwa United, Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch to his new club. His move also marks the latest stage of a career that has included an NPFL title, four MTN8 trophies and three Nedbank Cups.
