Ajax target Enzo Boyomo as Osasuna resist late loan approach

Ajax have confirmed their interest in signing Osasuna and Cameroon defender Enzo Boyomo, but the Spanish club’s sporting director Braulio Vazquez has indicated that he is reluctant to consider a loan deal for the 24-year-old.

Boyomo, who has won nine international caps for Cameroon, has attracted attention from several clubs during the final stages of the transfer window. Ajax are understood to want to bring the central defender to Amsterdam on loan from the Liga side.

However, Vazquez said Osasuna believed Boyomo was worth more than a short-term move and suggested the club would reject even a substantial offer with only around 30 hours of the transfer window remaining.

Osasuna face Getafe in Liga on Monday evening. Before the match, Vazquez used a news conference to express his frustration at the timing of the transfer market and the pressure placed on clubs to make decisions while the season is already under way.

“I’m preaching in the desert, but the transfer window isn’t over and the third matchday has already started… tell me,” he said, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

Vazquez then confirmed Ajax’s interest in Boyomo, while making clear that Osasuna’s preference was to keep the defender.

“There have been other offers, and not just this one. Enzo has great value. With 30 hours left in the transfer window, we would not even consider a substantial offer because we believe that, beyond the financial aspect, we must get the best out of Enzo. That is why clubs such as Ajax want him,” said Vazquez.

The sporting director added that he hoped Boyomo would remain at Osasuna as the club seeks to build the strongest squad possible.

“I hope he stays, so that we can put together the best team possible,” Vazquez concluded.

Ajax, four-time winners of the European Cup and UEFA Champions League, have until Wednesday evening to complete a possible deal for Boyomo. The winter transfer window in the Netherlands will close at that point.

Boyomo joined Osasuna from Real Valladolid and has established himself as an important defensive option for the Liga club. His performances have also helped him secure a place in the Cameroon national team, with his international record now standing at nine appearances.

For Ajax, the interest reflects a desire to strengthen their defence, but Vazquez’s comments suggest that any agreement would need to satisfy Osasuna’s sporting ambitions as well as the financial value of the player. The Spanish club does not appear willing to lose Boyomo on terms it considers insufficient, particularly with the campaign already into its third matchday.

No agreement has been announced, and Ajax’s remaining time to pursue the move is limited by the approaching Dutch deadline.
