Gambia midfielder Modou Badjie returns to Sondrio on free transfer
The Gambia midfielder Modou Badjie has joined Italian club Sondrio from Citta M.S.G.C. on a free transfer, completing his return to the side on 31 August 2026.
Badjie, 29, has signed a contract with Sondrio running until 30 June 2027. The defensive midfielder previously played for the club before leaving for Citta M.S.G.C. on 15 July, also on a free transfer. His move back to Sondrio was completed less than seven weeks later.
Born in Banjul, Badjie began his senior career in The Gambia with Real de Banjul before moving to Italy. He joined Atalanta’s youth set-up in January 2017 and subsequently spent time on loan at Modena, Catanzaro and Rimini.
The left-footed midfielder later left Atalanta and, after a spell without a club, joined Armed Forces in October 2020. He moved to GS Mazara in July 2021, then switched to Alcamo a year later before first joining Sondrio in July 2023.
Badjie has recorded 59 appearances, three goals and three assists in Serie D – B. He has also played in Serie C – B, making 15 appearances and scoring once, while featuring in other Italian domestic competitions during his career.
His record includes appearances for Atalanta’s youth side in the Primavera competitions and a single CAF Champions League appearance. Badjie’s career has therefore included experience in both Italian professional and semi-professional football, alongside his early development in The Gambia.
Sondrio’s new signing has a recorded market value of €50,000 and has agreed terms through the end of the 2026-27 campaign. The transfer was registered on 31 August, bringing the midfielder back to the Italian club after his brief spell with Citta M.S.G.C.
Badjie has now completed his free transfer from Citta M.S.G.C. to Sondrio and is contracted to the club until June 2027.
