Kevin Mbabu emerges as Sampdoria option for Serie B campaign

Switzerland and DR Congo defender Kevin Mbabu, currently without a club, has been linked with a move to Italian side Sampdoria.

The 31-year-old right-back is being mentioned in connection with a potential switch to Sampdoria, who compete in Serie B. The rumour comes after Mbabu left Danish side FC Midtjylland on 1 July 2026.

Mbabu joined Midtjylland from Fulham on a free transfer in August 2024 and helped the club win the Danish Cup during the 2025-26 season. He is now unattached, with his listed market value standing at €2.2m.

His career has included spells in Switzerland, England, Germany and Denmark. Mbabu made 91 Bundesliga appearances, scoring three goals and providing five assists, while he played nine times in the Premier League during his time with Fulham.

He began his senior career at Servette before joining Newcastle United in 2013. A loan spell at Rangers followed, and he later returned to Switzerland with Young Boys, winning the Swiss championship twice in 2017-18 and 2018-19.

Mbabu’s previous move to Midtjylland followed a period in which he spent time on loan at Servette and Augsburg while contracted to Fulham. His current status leaves him available for a new club, with Sampdoria the side currently linked with his next move.
