Caleb Ekuban emerges as Sampdoria option after Genoa exit

Ghanaian-Italian centre-forward Caleb Ekuban, currently without a club after leaving Genoa, is being linked with a move to Sampdoria in Serie B.

The 32-year-old is reported to be under consideration by Sampdoria as the club assess attacking options for the new season. No agreement has been confirmed and the potential move remains at rumour stage.

Ekuban’s departure from Genoa was recorded on 1 July 2026, ending a five-year spell with the Serie A side after he joined from Trabzonspor for €2.6m in August 2021. He has since become available for a new club, with Sampdoria named as a possible destination.

Born in Villafranca di Verona, Ekuban has represented both Ghana and Italy at international level and has spent much of his career in Italy and Turkey. He made 108 Serie A appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists, while his record in the Turkish top flight stands at 20 goals in 83 appearances.

His most successful period came at Trabzonspor, where he won the Turkish Cup in 2019-20 and the Turkish Super Cup the following season. He was also named the club’s player of the tournament in 2020-21.

Ekuban’s current market value is listed at €1.2m, but his status without a club could allow Sampdoria to explore the move without negotiating a transfer fee.
