South Africa FA to unveil Pitso Mosimane as new Bafana Bafana coach this week

The South African Football Association (SAFA) is set to unveil Pitso Mosimane as the new head coach of the Bafana Bafana this week, following the successful conclusion of negotiations between the two parties.

Mosimane has reportedly reached an agreement with SAFA to return to the national team for a second spell, succeeding Belgian coach Hugo Broos.

The appointment follows two weeks of intensive negotiations, with both parties working to resolve outstanding issues in the proposed contract before reaching a final agreement.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach emerged as SAFA’s preferred candidate to take charge of the national team, with his experience and previous success making him a strong choice to lead Bafana Bafana into a new era.

However, negotiations were not straightforward, with contractual issues surrounding Mosimane’s existing endorsement agreements and media commitments proving to be major points of discussion.

One of the issues reportedly centred on the coach’s podcast. SAFA had initially insisted that Mosimane discontinue the programme once he takes charge of the national team, given the responsibilities and demands of the Bafana Bafana job.

The two sides have now reached an understanding on the outstanding contractual matters, clearing the way for Mosimane’s return to the national team.

Mosimane previously managed Bafana Bafana and went on to enjoy considerable success at club level, most notably with Mamelodi Sundowns, whom he guided to the CAF Champions League title in 2016.

He also enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, winning major domestic and continental honours and further establishing himself as one of Africa’s most accomplished coaches.

His return to the South African national team is therefore expected to generate significant excitement among supporters, particularly given his previous achievements in African football.

Broos is set to leave his position after guiding Bafana Bafana through a successful period, and Mosimane will now be tasked with building on the progress made under the Belgian.

While SAFA have not yet confirmed the exact date and time of the unveiling, the association is expected to officially present Mosimane as the new Bafana Bafana coach before the end of the week.
