Malik Yasser becomes free agent after Al Ahly contract ruling

Malik Yasser is free to join another club after the Egyptian Basketball Federation’s Grievances Committee ruled that his contract with Al Ahly has expired, according to Mohamed Moharam, a federation board member and chairman of its Players’ Affairs Committee.

Moharam told FilGoal.com: “The Grievances Committee of the Egyptian Basketball Federation has ruled on the dispute between Malik Yasser and Al Ahly and confirmed that the player is not tied to a contract with the club because his contract lasted only six months. Therefore, the player has become a free agent.”

The decision brings an end to the disagreement between the player and Al Ahly over his contractual status. Under the ruling, Yasser will now be given seven days to sign for a new club.

Al Ahly will also have seven days to complete the signing of a replacement player, Moharam said.

“Malik will have seven days to sign for any new team, while Al Ahly will also have seven days to sign a player to replace him,” he added.

Moharam also clarified the position of Al Ittihad Alexandria, who had been linked with Yasser’s next move.

“Al Ittihad Alexandria is not a party to the dispute because it was solely between the player and Al Ahly,” he said.

The comments followed an update from Ayman Sedky, head of basketball at Al Ittihad Alexandria, regarding the club’s efforts to register Malik Yasser Abu El Fotouh in its squad.

Sedky told FilGoal.com: “The Grievances Committee of the Egyptian Basketball Federation has established Al Ittihad Alexandria’s right to sign Malik Yasser, the former Al Ahly player.”

He added: “The player will join training within days.”

Yasser is expected to become Al Ittihad Alexandria’s second signing for next season, following the arrival of Sami El Iraqi.

The club had announced several weeks ago that Ahmed Omar would take charge as head coach, replacing Ashraf Tawfik.

That change came after Al Ittihad Alexandria lost the Egyptian Basketball League title to Al Ahly last season.

The federation’s ruling now leaves Yasser able to determine his next destination, while Al Ahly have a seven-day window to strengthen their squad in response to his departure. Al Ittihad Alexandria, meanwhile, are preparing for the player to join their training programme in the coming days, although Mohamed Moharam stressed that the club was not involved in the original contractual dispute.

The case was ultimately decided on the length of Yasser’s agreement. The Grievances Committee concluded that the six-month deal had run its course, meaning he was no longer bound to Al Ahly and could negotiate with another team.
