Juventus agree loan deal with Tottenham Hotspur for Pape Sarr

Juventus have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Senegal midfielder Pape Sarr on a season-long loan, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The deal includes an option for Juventus to make the transfer permanent for €28m. That option would become mandatory if Juventus qualify for either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League and Sarr features in 50% of their matches.

Sarr, who is 23, joined Tottenham Hotspur from French club Metz in 2021. Since moving to the Premier League side, the midfielder has made 141 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists.

The agreement would give Juventus the opportunity to assess Sarr over the course of the season before committing to a permanent transfer, although the purchase clause would be activated under the conditions outlined in the deal.

Sarr has established himself as a Senegal international since arriving at Tottenham Hotspur, and his record for the club includes 11 goals and 11 assists across his 141 appearances. Juventus have now agreed terms with Tottenham Hotspur over a move that could ultimately be worth €28m.

The transfer is part of an active window for Juventus, who have also signed Randal Kolo Muani, Jhon Lucumi, Jeff Ekhator, Kamil Grabara, Zeki Celik and Guglielmo Vicario.

Juventus have made a winning start to their Italian league campaign, taking victory in their opening two matches. Those wins came against Frosinone and Parma.

Their qualification for European competition will therefore be one of the conditions relevant to the Sarr agreement. Should Juventus secure a place in either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League, and should the Senegalese midfielder play in half of their matches, the €28m purchase clause will become compulsory.

For now, the arrangement is a loan lasting one season, with Juventus retaining the option to complete the transfer permanently. The agreement reported by Romano places Sarr in line to continue his career in Italy after four years with Tottenham Hotspur, while giving Juventus another addition to a squad that has already been strengthened by seven other arrivals during the current transfer window.
