Atletico de Madrid make loan offer for Juventus striker Jonathan David, says Romano

Atletico de Madrid have submitted a formal offer to Juventus to sign Canada striker Jonathan David on loan, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The Spanish club are considering strengthening their attack amid uncertainty over the futures of Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth. The proposed deal for David would reportedly include an option for Atletico de Madrid to buy him permanently next summer if he performs well during his time at the club.

Juventus are said to be waiting to sign a replacement striker before allowing the Canada international to leave. David joined the Italian club from French side Lille in the summer of 2025 and remains under contract until the summer of 2030.

The 47 appearances he has made for Juventus have produced eight goals and five assists.

Atletico de Madrid are monitoring the situation involving both Sørloth and Alvarez, with the club expecting their futures to be resolved during the remaining days of the transfer window. Their potential departures would leave the Spanish side needing additional attacking options, increasing the importance of their pursuit of David.

The 25-year-old forward has emerged as a possible solution, although any move depends on Juventus completing their own recruitment plans first. Should the Italian club secure a replacement, David could be allowed to move to the Spanish capital on a temporary basis, with Atletico retaining the possibility of making the transfer permanent.

Atletico de Madrid have made an unbeaten start to their La Liga campaign, winning two matches and drawing one. They opened the season with a 2-0 victory against Malaga before being held to a 2-2 draw by Villarreal in the second round.

They then defeated Sevilla 3-1 on Saturday in their third match of the campaign.

Diego Simeone’s side are due to face Athletic Bilbao on Saturday in the fourth round of La Liga, while discussions over David and the futures of Sørloth and Alvarez continue.
