Hossam Abdelmaguid makes full Ludogorets debut in draw with Spartak Varna

Hossam Abdelmaguid completed his first full appearance for Ludogorets as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Spartak Varna in the Bulgarian league.

The Egypt international joined Ludogorets from Zamalek during the current summer transfer window and had previously featured only as a substitute. His earlier appearance came in Ludogorets’ previous match, when they drew 1-1 with Slavia Sofia.

Abdelmaguid was named in the starting line-up against Spartak Varna and remained on the pitch for the entire seventh-round fixture, marking his first complete match since moving to the Bulgarian club.

The result means Ludogorets have now drawn their past two league matches without a win. They were also held by Slavia Sofia in their previous outing, with the two matches producing identical scorelines.

Spartak Varna took the lead after 65 minutes when Samuel Mayoor found the net. Ludogorets responded quickly, with Simeon Shishkov equalising three minutes later to make it 1-1.

Neither side was able to find a winning goal, leaving Ludogorets with a point rather than the victory that would have strengthened their position at the top of the table.

Ludogorets now have 17 points from seven matches and sit second in the standings. They are one point behind leaders Levski Sofia, who have played six games.

The draw also moved Spartak Varna up to eight points. They are sixth in the Bulgarian league table.

For Abdelmaguid, the match represented a further step in his early period with Ludogorets. After beginning his involvement with a substitute appearance against Slavia Sofia, the defender was given the opportunity to play the full match in the side’s latest league fixture.

Ludogorets will nevertheless view the result as another dropped opportunity, having been unable to win either of their last two matches despite scoring in both. Their failure to turn either game into a victory has left them just behind Levski Sofia after seven rounds.

Spartak Varna, meanwhile, earned a valuable point after recovering from Ludogorets’ equaliser. Mayoor’s goal had put the visitors or hostsdepending on the venueahead in the second half, but Shishkov’s quick response ensured the points were shared.
