Omar Marmoush completes Tottenham debut in Newcastle defeat

Omar Marmoush made his first appearance for Tottenham after joining the club on loan from Manchester City, but could not prevent Roberto De Zerbi’s side from suffering a 2-0 defeat by Newcastle United in the second round of the Premier League.

The Egypt international was named in Tottenham’s starting line-up at the first opportunity after completing his move. De Zerbi kept him on the pitch for the entire match, giving Marmoush all 90 minutes as Tottenham were beaten without scoring.

Newcastle’s victory lifted them to four points and third place in the Premier League table. Tottenham, meanwhile, remain bottom of the standings without a point after two rounds.

Marmoush’s involvement was reflected in a series of positive individual figures, despite Tottenham’s failure to take anything from the match. He attempted three shots, with one of those efforts finding the target.

The appearance represented the first competitive outing for Marmoush in Tottenham colours since his arrival from Manchester City. His inclusion from the start showed that De Zerbi was willing to place immediate trust in the Egypt international, while completing the match gave him the maximum possible playing time on his debut.

However, Newcastle’s two-goal success meant Marmoush’s first appearance ended in defeat. Tottenham were unable to score and now face the early pressure of trying to recover from two consecutive losses at the beginning of their Premier League campaign.
