Magesi FC make it two wins from two in Motsepe Foundation Championship

Magesi FC maintained their perfect start to the Motsepe Foundation Championship season with a 1-0 home victory over the Bees at Mafori Stadium.

The result followed their opening-day success against Midlands Wanderers and gave the 2024 Carling Knockout champions maximum points from their first two matches.

Magesi were determined to avoid slipping up in their first home fixture of the campaign, and Nyakala Raphadu once again proved decisive by scoring the goal that secured victory for the second consecutive game.

University of Pretoria 0-2 Midlands Wanderers

University of Pretoria fell to the bottom of the table after losing 2-0 to Midlands Wanderers at Tuks Stadium.

Midlands Wanderers, who began their campaign with defeat by Magesi FC, responded strongly as Ndumiso Ngiba and Smiso Gazu scored in the first half.

It has been a difficult start for Michael Loftman’s side. University of Pretoria are yet to score this season and also conceded in the closing seconds of last weekend’s match against newcomers Hope FC.

Lerumo Lions 2-0 Northwest University

Lerumo Lions recorded their first win of the season by beating newcomers Northwest University 2-0 at Dobsonville Stadium.

The hosts scored once in each half to claim all three points.

Both sides had begun their campaigns with draws the previous weekend, against Venda Football Academy and Upington City respectively.

Gomora United 1-0 Venda Football Academy

Gomora United secured their first victory of the campaign in their first home match, defeating Venda Football Academy 1-0.

Former Black Leopards playmaker Tiklas Thutlwa scored the only goal midway through the first half, giving the hosts a full haul of points.

Highbury FC 1-0 Hope FC

Highbury FC made it two victories from two matches with a 1-0 win over newcomers Hope FC at Nelson Mandela University Stadium on Friday.

Having beaten the Bees away from home on the opening day, the hosts continued their strong start to the season.

Lonwabo Bayeni’s first-half finish proved enough to decide the match.

Orbit College 0-0 Hungry Lions

Orbit College’s return to the second tier continued without a win after they were held to a goalless draw by Hungry Lions at Olympia Park.

The result extended Orbit College’s slow start after the side, who competed in the Betway Premiership last season, opened their campaign with defeat by Leicesterford City.

For Hungry Lions, known as Di Tau, it was a second consecutive draw.

Upington City 2-1 Real Native FC

Upington City claimed their first win of the Motsepe Foundation Championship season by recovering from a goal down to beat Real Native FC 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Former Stellenbosch FC winger Leletu Skelem gave the visitors the lead before half-time, putting Real Native FC in front.

Upington City, known as Bafana Ba Gucci, responded after the interval and levelled through Ryan Visagie, who opened his account for the season.

The hosts continued to control the match and completed the comeback late on when debutant Palelo Mafuyeka produced a clinical finish to score the winner.

The defeat was Real Native FC’s first of the campaign.
