Enzo Fernandez move to Manchester City awaits formal offer to Chelsea
The future of Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez remains uncertain during the current summer transfer window, with Manchester City yet to submit an official bid despite the player reportedly reaching a verbal agreement over personal terms.
Recent reports suggested that Fernandez was close to joining Manchester City after negotiations between the two clubs advanced. However, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano says the proposed move is still dependent on decisions being made by Chelsea and Manchester City.
Writing on X, Romano said: “Enzo Fernandez has a verbal agreement with Manchester City on personal terms.”
He added: “The deal depends on a club-to-club decision. Manchester City have not sent an official bid yet, but contacts will take place soon. The decision on the price is up to Chelsea.”
The comments indicate that Fernandez’s personal position is not the only factor standing between the Argentina international and a move to Manchester City. No formal offer has yet been sent to Chelsea, meaning the two clubs still need to discuss the financial terms of any potential transfer.
Chelsea will have the final say on the asking price, while Manchester City are expected to make contact with the London club soon. Until those discussions take place, the deal remains at an early stage despite the reported understanding between the player and Manchester City over his contract terms.
Romano also suggested that Fernandez may not feature for Chelsea again during the current round of the Premier League.
That possibility adds further uncertainty to the midfielder’s immediate situation, although the proposed transfer cannot progress until Manchester City decide whether to submit an offer and Chelsea respond to it.
For now, there is no official agreement between the clubs. Fernandez has only reached an understanding with Manchester City regarding personal terms, and the outcome of the transfer will depend on whether both sides can reach a deal over the fee.
The reports therefore leave the move unresolved. Manchester City’s interest has been linked with advanced negotiations, but the absence of a formal bid means Fernandez’s future at Chelsea remains undecided. Further contact between the clubs is expected soon, with Chelsea’s valuation set to play a central role in determining whether the transfer can be completed.
