Mamadou Jobe: English-Gambian defender joins Stockport from Cambridge United

English-Gambian centre-back Mamadou Jobe has joined Stockport from Cambridge United, signing a contract that runs until 30 June 2029.

The 23-year-old defender moves between two League One clubs after leaving Cambridge United on 28 August 2026. No transfer fee has been disclosed.

Jobe has started the 2026-27 campaign with two League One appearances for Stockport, playing every minute and contributing one assist. He has also featured once in the EFL Cup, completing 90 minutes in the competition.

Born in Harlow on 2 March 2003, Jobe is a right-footed central defender. He stands 1.85m tall and has spent much of his senior career developing through Cambridge United and a series of loan spells.

Jobe initially joined Cambridge United from Cambridge Under-18s in July 2021. He subsequently spent time on loan with St Neots Town and Concord Rangers during the 2021-22 season before returning to Cambridge.

The defender moved out again during the 2022-23 campaign, joining St Albans City on loan in December 2022 and Maidstone in January 2023. He returned to Cambridge United after each spell.

In November 2023, Jobe joined Gateshead on loan, making another temporary move away from Cambridge before returning to the club in March 2024. His move to Stockport is his first recorded transfer away from Cambridge United following that sequence of loans.

His early involvement at Stockport has included a full starting role in the club’s opening League One matches, while his EFL Cup appearance gives him three competitive outings since joining.

Jobe’s arrival adds a defender with experience across the English football pyramid to Stockport’s squad. His new agreement keeps him at Edgeley Park through the end of the 2028-29 season.

The completed move sees Jobe leave Cambridge United and begin the next stage of his career with Stockport.
