Trevor Noah to lead Savanna’s South Africa’s Festival of Comedy tour

Trevor Noah will captain a national line-up of South African comedians at South Africa’s Festival of Comedy, a three-city arena tour taking place this September.

The Savanna-backed event, featuring the Bafunny Bafunny squad, will visit SunBet Arena in Pretoria, SunCoast in Durban and Grand West in Cape Town. The line-up has been selected and led by Noah, with Eugene Khoza serving as vice-captain.

The festival is built around the idea that South Africa’s everyday life provides an endless supply of comedy, from commentary through taxi windows and conversations in group chats to the unexpected twists that people navigate with humour.

Savanna said the event would turn that familiar national perspective into a large-scale live comedy experience. The brand’s long-standing association with crisp, dry humour is being used as the creative link between its product and the comedians appearing on stage.

This is more than a conventional stand-up show, according to the organisers. The event is being presented as a celebration of local comedy and a national gathering for audiences to enjoy the country’s distinctive sense of humour.

The performers have been chosen for their stage presence, cultural insight and ability to engage large crowds. Together, they represent a variety of South African comedic styles, including street-level observation, kasi humour, suburban experiences and storytelling designed for arena audiences.

“Because we’ve chosen the best players to represent the South African National Team of Comedy, this promises to be an explosive experience that fans should look forward to,” said Captain Trevor Noah.

Noah added that the tour would bring an international standard of stand-up to three of South Africa’s biggest cities.
