AS Roma open to Neil El Aynaoui departure as German clubs explore loan deal
AS Roma have placed Morocco midfielder Neil El Aynaoui on the transfer list after he failed to establish himself in Gian Piero Gasperini’s system.
The Italian club’s decision reflects the lack of a strong working relationship between the player and the manager. Roma’s hierarchy now wants El Aynaoui to leave permanently during this transfer window, allowing the club to draw a line under the situation and move forward.
Roma are keen to secure a buyer quickly and are waiting for a firm offer that would allow them to remove El Aynaoui’s salary from their wage bill. The club’s preference is therefore for a permanent transfer rather than a temporary arrangement.
However, there has been little progress towards that outcome so far. According to Il Messaggero, no club has yet come forward with a firm proposal to sign the midfielder outright. The only approaches received by Roma have been loan offers from German clubs.
Those proposals do not match the Italian club’s immediate objective, with the Roma board prioritising a definitive departure. Unless a buyer emerges with an acceptable offer, the uncertainty around El Aynaoui’s future is likely to continue.
El Aynaoui has not managed to convince Gasperini that he fits the approach the Roma manager wants from his midfield. With the relationship between the two men failing to develop, the club has opted to make the player available rather than continue with a situation that has not produced a clear role for him.
Roma’s position is understood to be centred on finding a permanent solution during the current mercato. A loan move from Germany remains the only concrete form of interest reported so far, but such an agreement would not immediately provide the financial outcome the club is seeking.
The next stage will depend on whether one of the interested clubs changes its position and submits a firm bid. For now, El Aynaoui is officially available for transfer, while Roma continue to look for a buyer capable of completing a permanent move.
