Faiz Abrahams reveals Kaizer Chiefs debut instructions after Richards Bay draw

Kaizer Chiefs winger Faiz Abrahams says he was told to create opportunities and help his new side fight back during his debut in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw away to Richards Bay.

The 21-year-old made his first appearance for Kaizer Chiefs after joining the club earlier this month on a season-long loan from Stellenbosch FC. He came off the bench during a pulsating match in which the Glamour Boys shared four goals with Richards Bay.

Abrahams said the instructions from the coach were clear when he was introduced.

“The coach told me to go out there and create chances for us to get back into the game,” he told the club’s website.

The winger believes he made a positive contribution after helping Kaizer Chiefs create openings late in the match.

“I think I made a few opportunities that we might have scored from, so I am quite happy with how I did.

“We played well enough to win the game but we had a couple of misfortunes which we will definitely work on cutting out going forward.”

Although Kaizer Chiefs had to settle for a point, Abrahams said he was encouraged by his first experience of travelling with the club and credited the coach and his team-mates for making him feel involved.

“It was my first time travelling with Kaizer Chiefs. It felt good to be included and I appreciate the coach’s belief in me. I have worked hard since I arrived and I am grateful for the support I have received and honoured to be playing for this great Club.”

Abrahams was born in Bishop Lavis on the Cape Flats and started his football development in the youth ranks of the well-known Ajax Cape Town, now Cape Town Spurs.

He later moved to Stellenbosch FC, where he initially represented the club in the DStv Diski Challenge squad before progressing to senior football.

His senior debut came against Kaizer Chiefs two seasons ago, making Wednesday’s appearance for the Johannesburg club a notable development in his career. The midfielder is now aiming to build on his brief outing after completing his move to the Glamour Boys.

The draw at Richards Bay provided Abrahams with his first opportunity to wear Kaizer Chiefs’ gold and black in a competitive match. His comments suggest he was satisfied with the chances he helped create, while also acknowledging the areas the team must improve after failing to turn their performance into a victory.
