Polish club Gornik Zabrze tracking South African midfielder Emile Witbooi

South African teenager Emile Witbooi, who plays for Cape Town City, has been linked with a move to Gornik Zabrze. The possible switch would take the 17-year-old attacking midfielder from South Africa to Poland’s Ekstraklasa, although the transfer remains a rumour and has not been confirmed.

Witbooi joined Cape Town City’s senior squad from the club’s reserves in August 2024. He has since made five appearances in the PSL Promotion-Relegation Playoff, recording 204 minutes, as well as featuring three times in the Betway Premiership.

He also played once in the Nedbank Cup, completing 25 minutes in the competition. The available figures do not record a goal or assist for the teenager in those appearances.

Born in Kimberly, Northern Cape, Witbooi has been listed as an attacking midfielder and is one of the youngest players linked with a move from Cape Town City to a European league. Gornik Zabrze would represent his first reported opportunity to play outside South Africa.

Cape Town City signed Witbooi after he spent time at the Transnet School of Excellence before joining the club’s reserve side in January 2024. He remains a Cape Town City player while the reported interest from Gornik Zabrze develops.
