Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi unveiled by Al Khaldiya SC

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi has been officially unveiled by Bahraini club Al Khaldiya SC after leaving the South African side.

The 28-year-old midfielder completed his move after being allowed to depart Orlando Pirates following a transfer request submitted to the club’s management. Pirates agreed to release Maswanganyi “in recognition of his service” to the Buccaneers.

Al Khaldiya presented their new signing on Thursday, confirming Maswanganyi’s next move after his time with Orlando Pirates. The Bahrain-based club will now become the latest side to benefit from the midfielder’s creativity and attacking ability.

Maswanganyi made 120 appearances for Orlando Pirates during his spell with the club. He scored 28 goals and provided 21 assists, highlighting his contribution in the final third as well as his ability to create opportunities for team-mates.

His departure brings an end to his time with the Buccaneers, for whom he established himself as a skilful midfielder. The decision to let him leave followed his request for a transfer and the club’s acknowledgement of his service.

Al Khaldiya were founded in 2020 and finished second in the Bahraini Premier League last season. Maswanganyi joins the club as they build on that campaign and prepare for the next stage of their development.

The midfielder’s unveiling marks the start of a new chapter in his career, with his record at Orlando Pirates providing the background to his arrival. Across 120 appearances, he contributed 49 goals and assists in total, scoring 28 times and setting up a further 21.

For Al Khaldiya, the signing adds a player with extensive experience of competing for Orlando Pirates and a proven record of influencing matches through both goals and assists. For Maswanganyi, the move represents a change of club after his transfer request was accepted by Pirates.

The new club’s second-place finish in the Bahraini Premier League last season gives context to the level at which Maswanganyi will now be playing. Al Khaldiya’s history is relatively recent, having been founded in 2020, but the side ended last season among the leading teams in Bahrain.

Maswanganyi’s unveiling on Thursday formally introduced him as an Al Khaldiya player, following the conclusion of his Orlando Pirates career.
