Omar Marmoush says Tottenham project was ‘extremely attractive’ after £60m move

Omar Marmoush says Tottenham’s ambition and long-term plans convinced him to join the club, with the Egypt international describing the project as “extremely attractive”.

Tottenham have confirmed that Marmoush has arrived initially on loan, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent next season. Reports put the value of the deal at about £60m.

“I feel great to be here. I am very excited to get started with the team and I cannot wait to meet the fans,” Marmoush told Tottenham’s official website.

“Tottenham is one of the biggest clubs in England, if not the world, and the project was extremely attractive to me.”

The forward also revealed that discussions with head coach Roberto De Zerbi played an important role in his decision to move to north London.

“I spoke to the manager and I liked his words. I am sure that our passion for the game will fit together very well,” he said.

De Zerbi said Marmoush possessed the qualities Tottenham were looking for as they continued to strengthen their attacking options.

“Omar is exactly the type of player we want at this club – ambitious, hungry and determined to make a difference,” said the Tottenham manager.

“He has amazing attacking quality, but what I also like is his desire to improve and win.”

“He is fast and intelligent, and he is a real threat in front of goal. I believe he can take our attacking style of play to another level.”

Marmoush is set to become only the third Egyptian footballer to represent the London club, following Ahmed Hossam Mido and Hossam Ghaly.

His first appearance for Tottenham is expected to come against Newcastle United next Saturday. Newcastle are Marmoush’s favourite opponents, with the striker having scored seven goals against them during his career.

The transfer takes Tottenham’s spending during the summer window to about £400m. The figure has been reached after the club completed the Marmoush deal and confirmed the signing of Savinho from Manchester City.

Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025. During his time at City, he made 62 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists.

He also won the FA Cup and the EFL Cup with Manchester City.

Tottenham began their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 defeat by Brentford on Saturday evening. The result came in the opening round of the competition and leaves De Zerbi’s side looking to respond when Marmoush joins the squad for the meeting with Newcastle.

The move gives Marmoush an opportunity to continue his career in the Premier League while becoming the latest Egyptian player to wear Tottenham’s colours. His immediate challenge will be to help a side that began the season with a heavy defeat and now has a significant investment to justify.
