Egypt legend Hossam Mido backs Omar Marmoush to shine at Tottenham
Egyptian football legend Ahmed Hossam Mido has backed Omar Marmoush to make a major impact at Tottenham Hotspur, describing the expected arrival of the Egyptian international as an excellent signing for the London club.
Marmoush is set to join Tottenham on loan from Manchester City with obligation to buy the forward for £50 million, plus a further £10 million in potential add-ons.
Mido, who previously played for Tottenham and knows the club well, believes Marmoush has the qualities required to succeed in North London.
“Tottenham have signed a fantastic player, Omar Marmoush. He can score goals, works hard for the team, and is a top-class professional,” Mido told talkSPORT.
The former Egyptian striker also revealed that he has known Marmoush since the early stages of his career. Mido was coaching Wadi Degla when he handed Marmoush his professional debut in the Egyptian Premier League at just 16 years old.
“I gave him his first professional appearance in the Egyptian League when he was 16 years old, when I was coaching Wadi Degla, and I always believed in his abilities and thought he would become a great player,” he said.
Mido believes Tottenham are particularly suited to Marmoush because of his versatility and ability to operate in different attacking positions.
“I think Tottenham really need Omar Marmoush, and he will give Roberto De Zerbi many options, as he can play as a striker as well as a left winger,” he explained.
The Egyptian legend also believes Marmoush is motivated to prove himself after struggling for regular playing time at Manchester City.
“He is now hungry for success, and he needs Tottenham, as he has not been playing much with Manchester City,” Mido added.
Marmoush will now be hoping to use his expected move to Tottenham as an opportunity to rediscover his best form, secure regular minutes and demonstrate the qualities that made Manchester City invest heavily in him.
