Senegal midfielder Pape Daouda Diong joins Westerlo on four-year deal

Senegalese midfielder Pape Daouda Diong has completed a move to Belgian club Westerlo, bringing an end to his time with French side Strasbourg.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder spent the 2025–2026 season on loan at Dunkerque, where he continued his development and gained valuable experience in French football.

Diong has now taken the next step in his career by moving to Belgium, with Westerlo securing his services on a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.

The Belgian side have reportedly paid €2.5 million to Strasbourg for the Senegalese international, making the transfer an important investment in the young midfielder.

 “KVC Westerlo welcomes Pape Diong. The 20-year-old Senegalese defensive midfielder arrives from RC Strasbourg Alsace and has signed a four-year contract,” the club announced.

The transfer will see Diong experience Belgian football for the first time as he begins a new chapter with Westerlo. The club will be hoping his qualities in the defensive midfield position can strengthen their squad while also providing him with the platform to continue his development.

Despite his young age, Diong already has international experience with Senegal. He has made three appearances for the Senegal U20 national team and has also featured for the senior national side.

The midfielder made his senior debut for the Teranga Lions in September 2023, giving him valuable exposure to international football alongside his club career.

After gaining experience in France with Strasbourg and Dunkerque, Diong will now look to establish himself in Belgium and justify Westerlo’s investment.

His four-year contract also underlines the club’s long-term plans for the player, with Westerlo clearly viewing the Senegalese midfielder as someone capable of developing into an important player for the team in the coming seasons.
