Idrissa Sabaly makes Red Star switch to boost professional experience

Idrissa Sabaly has joined Red Star FC on loan from RC Strasbourg until the end of the season, giving the 18-year-old Senegalese midfielder the opportunity to gain more regular playing time at professional level.

Sabaly spent much of last season with Strasbourg’s reserve side, where he played alongside fellow young Senegalese prospect Yaya Diémé. His performances also earned him opportunities with Strasbourg’s senior team as he began to experience first-team football.

The midfielder made his first start for Strasbourg in Ligue 1 when they faced Stade Rennais. Sabaly was named in the starting XI and remained on the pitch for 57 minutes before being replaced by Julio Enciso.

Strasbourg were unable to get a result from the match, eventually suffering a 3-0 defeat.

Despite the loss, the appearance marked an important step in Sabaly’s development, having moved from reserve-team football to making his first start in France’s top flight.

He was subsequently included in Strasbourg’s first-team squad for two further fixtures.

Sabaly was an unused substitute when Strasbourg faced Nice in the Coupe de France, a match they lost 2-0. He was also on the bench for the club’s Ligue 1 meeting with Angers, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The loan move to Red Star now provides the young midfielder with another opportunity to continue his development and gain valuable experience in professional football.

Having already made his first Ligue 1 start with Strasbourg, Sabaly will now look to build on that experience during his spell with Red Star.

The 18-year-old’s immediate objective will be to secure regular minutes and establish himself at professional level before returning to Strasbourg at the end of the loan period.
